CLOSED FOR “MUD SEASON”….……WITH A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR GUESTS FOR ANOTHER GREAT WINTER!

SUMMER AT STEMWINDER

We won’t be open for regular dinner service this summer, but we’re excited to host a series of wine-paired, pre-fixe dinners and special events as part of our Summer Dinner Series. Each menu is built around what our local farmers are harvesting and paired with wines from small producers—we’re often joined by the winemaker or a winery representative.

These dinners are a big hit and tend to fill up quickly. Events are announced via email, and posted here and on our Instagram.

Stay tuned for upcoming dates, menus, and reservation details—and if you’d like to be the first to know, join our email list stemwindervt@gmail.com

Looking forward to some great summer evenings together!

Cheers,

Wendy and Leslie

Why Stemwinder?

The list of names was long— references to wine, food, people and geography. We considered our location (Depot Street) and the association with The Wine & Cheese Depot. We contemplated train lingo. The term Stemwinder stood out because of the dual reference to a wineglass stem and a depot— a street, a train station, a shop.

By definition, Stemwinder is:

  • A geared locomotive. The engine has good traction on steep grades, sharp curves and uneven track. An engine that could climb Okemo!

  • A stem-winding pocket watch. A remarkable innovation and improvement over its predecessor- the key-wound watch. This technological advancement was so widely appreciated the the term stemwinder took on the mean excellent or outstanding. Coincidentally, a previous owner of 46 Depot Street (Nicholas Marro) operated a barbershop and watch repair business out of this building.

What Our Guests Are Saying

Amazing!!!! My boyfriend and I came here while visiting Ludlow for the weekend. We had the meat/cheese board, beef sliders, risotto, sword fish tacos....amazing wine and ciders! Everything on the menu sounds amazing. Fresh, farm-to-table ingredients. Great waitress, so so friendly! Highly recommend.

Really fun wine bar / restaurant in the heart of Main Street on Okemo Mountain. Had a reservation for two and got seated immediately. Service was incredibly professional and pleasant and had great suggestions as well. Food was hot and tasty and beers and wine were both cold and crisp. We had a great time and would definitely suggest a visit.
