We also host periodic wine dinners with menus designed around what our farmers have to offer, paired with wines from small producers- we are often joined by the winemaker or a winery representative. These dinners are a big hit and fill up quickly. The dinners are announced in an email blast and are posted on our website and Instagram. If you’d like to be added to our email list, please email stemwindervt@gmail.com with your details.

Our Story
Stemwinder represents the shared vision of Leslie Stuart and Wendy Neal, who are passionate about good wine and food. Leslie owns and operates The Wine & Cheese Depot and Wendy is the chef/owner of A Catered Affair.
Why Stemwinder?
The list of names was long— references to wine, food, people and geography. We considered our location (Depot Street) and the association with The Wine & Cheese Depot. We contemplated train lingo. The term Stemwinder stood out because of the dual reference to a wineglass stem and a depot— a street, a train station, a shop.
By definition, Stemwinder is:
A geared locomotive. The engine has good traction on steep grades, sharp curves and uneven track. An engine that could climb Okemo!
A stem-winding pocket watch. A remarkable innovation and improvement over its predecessor- the key-wound watch. This technological advancement was so widely appreciated the the term stemwinder took on the mean excellent or outstanding. Coincidentally, a previous owner of 46 Depot Street (Nicholas Marro) operated a barbershop and watch repair business out of this building.
